MYP Classes VI to VIII
As an authorised school for the IB Middle Years
Programme (MYP), at NMAJS we have adopted
the MYP framework for Classes VI to VIII. This
interdisciplinary programme builds on the
concepts and skills learnt in the PYP.
We believe that students learn best when the
learning and teaching are contextual and are
connected with their experiences and the world
around them. The units of study focus on
transferable skills and subject-specific concepts
that extend beyond subject matter or place and
time. The MYP identifies six global contexts that
are explored through inquiry-based units in each
subject throughout the programme to help
students develop a sense of understanding of the
world, explore common humanity, and inculcate a
shared guardianship of the planet. Together,
concepts and contexts are used as a lens to focus
on 'Big Ideas' that are relevant and significant to
our local and global contexts.

In each year of the MYP, students explore
purposeful and collaboratively planned units
within and across disciplines. The NMAJS
curriculum standards, inspired by the best curricula
around the world, work in tandem with the MYP
framework to support rigorous disciplinary and
interdisciplinary learning and teaching.
We believe in empowering students to 'learn how
to learn'. Students practise skills embedded in
communication, collaboration, organisation,
reflection, information literacy, media literacy,
critical thinking, and creative thinking. A focus on
these skills allows for explicit teaching and provides
opportunities for students to continue developing
agency and strengthen their understanding of the
attributes of the IB Learner Profile and the NMAJS
core values.
The MYP fosters the development of intercultural
understanding and global citizenship. The
