Professional Development with Joshua Blue
Joshua Blue, Principal at the Japanese International School in Hong Kong, visited the NMAJS Early Years Campus for a two-day professional development workshop focused on documenting learning stories and honouring children’s theories in the context of assessment.
Josh encouraged us to rethink how we see, hear, and represent children’s thinking. He reminded us that assessment in the early years isn’t about ticking boxes—it’s about noticing what really matters. Through thoughtful conversations and reflection, we explored how learning stories can help us truly see children as capable, creative, and insightful. These stories let us slow down, listen more closely, and capture the depth and beauty of children’s learning in a way that feels real and meaningful.
The workshop made us feel richer in thought, in questions, and in our commitment to making learning visible with authenticity and care. We are deeply grateful to Josh for sharing his insights, passion, and thoughtful guidance—his work continues to inspire and challenge us to see children, and our roles as educators, in new and powerful ways.
