Making Math Matter: A Week of Wonder, Play, and Purpose
Math Week at the Primary School was a vibrant, interdisciplinary celebration that showcased the beauty and relevance of mathematics in our everyday lives. Students from Grades 1 to 5 engaged in thoughtfully designed experiences that connected math with art, culinary creativity, physical movement, and collaborative play.
Grade 1 students crafted shape and pattern crowns, while Grade 2 explored geometry through the construction of 3D shape cities. Grade 3 brought math to life through a lively Math Café, where students applied their understanding of fractions, measurement, money, and number operations to prepare no-cook recipes and reflect on their learning. In Grades 4 and 5, students integrated math with physical education, collecting data, estimating, and calculating averages through dynamic movement-based tasks.
The entire campus buzzed with mathematical curiosity through daily morning math messages, a math-themed read-aloud hosted by the Learning Centre, and a student-led puzzle and games booth. Together, these experiences turned the week into a joyful journey of mathematical discovery, problem-solving, and purposeful learning.
