Stepping Into the World of Emotions
Our students had a meaningful and engaging learning experience at the Emotions Lab, created by Dadu’s Children’s Museum and supported by the Reliance Foundation. Designed as an immersive space for emotional learning, the lab encouraged students to explore, identify, express and navigate emotions through a range of interactive experiences.
The Emotional Trail introduced students to 16 different emotions and helped them recognise where they experienced themselves across pleasant, unpleasant, high-energy and low-energy zones. Through movement, role-play and games, students explored how emotions can look and feel, while developing a richer vocabulary to express themselves.
Activities such as Lenses encouraged students to consider how different perspectives can influence the way we think, feel and respond. Life Glasses and Guess the Emotions helped students develop emotional recognition and empathy by thinking about how others might feel in the same situation.
The positive affirmations experience encouraged students to combine words, movement and self-expression. Affirmations such as “I am enough,” “Mistakes are learning,” and “Love yourself” helped make positive self-talk tangible and memorable.
Students also explored practical strategies for navigating unpleasant emotions and moving towards a more balanced emotional state. The experience encouraged them to pause, reflect, express themselves and recognise how their emotions and actions can affect others.
Our Students Reflect
The impact of the experience was captured beautifully in students’ reflections:
“I’ve learnt that you can have many emotions, and it’s okay to feel them at any time.”
— Class 2A
“The way you think and feel is the way you see the world.”
— Class 3A
“I learnt that one situation can bring up so many different emotions for all.”
— Class 3B
“I got to explore new emotions and understand how others can express their emotions.”
— Class 3B
“What stood out to me was learning about 16 different feelings.”
— Class 4B
“The visit helped me understand how others feel at certain times. Therefore, I will always think before speaking.”
— Class 4B
“The Emotions Lab helped me understand and identify my emotions and learn helpful strategies that help me manage my emotions.”
— Class 6
“They helped us understand the difference between different emotions, recognise what we were feeling, and explore strategies that can help us manage our emotions in different situations.”
— Class 7
The Emotions Lab transformed emotional learning into something students could see, feel, express and experience. More than learning about emotions, they were given the opportunity to understand themselves, consider the perspectives of others and discover practical ways to navigate what they feel.
